Lammas, first August, Irish lughnas, August, Early Irish lúgnasad, Lammas-day: "festival of Lug"; from Lug, the sun-god of the Gael, whose name Stokes connects with German locken, allure, Norse lokka (do.), and also Loki(?). Early Irish nassad, festival (?), is referred by Rhys to the same origin as Latin nexus, and he translates lúgnasad as "Lug's wedding" (Hib.Lect, 416).
